올해 페르세우스 유성우의 폭발은 천체 관측자들을 놀라게 했다. 신뢰할 수 있는 유성우의 극대기는 8월 12/13일 밤으로 예측되었다. 그러나 북아메리카의 끈질긴 육안 관측자들은 하루 후, 8월 14일 이른 새벽에 분당 때로는 초당 여러 개의 유성에 대한 보고와 함께, 페르세우스자리 유성이 비가 오듯 쏟아져 내려 놀라움을 금치 못했다. 이 합성 사진에서 유성우의 복사점은 어두운 밤하늘 높이 있다. 온타리오(Ontario) 주, 웨스트미스(Westmeath) 전망대에서 8월 14일 오전 06:50 국제 표준시 (02:50 동부 표준시)에서 09:00 (05:00) 사이의 놀라운 폭발 활동 중 포착된 282개의 페르세우스자리 유성우의 궤적을 꼼꼼히 기록한다. 물론 연례 페르세우스 유성우는 주기 혜성 109P/스위프트-터틀(109P/Swift-Tuttle)의 먼지 파편을 지나는 지구의 통로와 관련이 있다. 2021년의 폭발은 보다 넓은 파면 구역 내부의 촘촘한 먼지 띠(ribbon)인 페르세우스 필라멘트(Perseid Filament)와의 예상치 못한 만남에 의해 일어났을 가능성이 있다.

Explanation: This year an outburst of Perseid meteors surprised skywatchers. The reliable meteor shower's peak was predicted for the night of August 12/13. But persistent visual observers in North America were deluged with a startling Perseid shower outburst a day later, with reports of multiple meteors per minute and sometimes per second in the early hours of August 14. The shower radiant is high in a dark night sky in this composite image. It painstakingly registers the trails of 282 Perseids captured during the stunning outburst activity between 0650 UT (02:50 am EDT) and 0900 UT (05:00 am EDT) on August 14 from Westmeath Lookout, Ontario. Of course the annual Perseid meteor shower is associated with planet Earth's passage through dusty debris from periodic comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle. The 2021 outburst could have been caused by an unanticipated encounter with the Perseid Filament, a denser ribbon of dust inside the broader debris zon
