임무 화성 180일(8월 22일)   이 선명한 이미지는 퍼시비어런스(Perseverance) 탐사선의 위험 회피 카메라가 화성의 예제로(Jezero) 분화구의 암석이 흩어져 있는 바닥을 내려다보며 촬영한 것이다. 직경이 52.5센티미터(21인치)인 탐사선의 조종 가능한 앞바퀴 중 하나는 사진의 왼쪽 아래에 보인다. 중앙 근처에는 로셰트(Rochette)라는 별명의 큰 암석이 있다. 임무 설계자는 로셰트(Rochette)를 피하고 싶어 하지 않는다. 대신 퍼시비어런스는 2미터 길이의 로봇 팔로 손을 뻗어 암석 표면을 연마하여 탐사선의 암석 천공 날을 사용하여 연필보다 약간 두꺼운 샘플을 채취하기에 적합한지 판단하도록 지시할 예정이다.  퍼시비어런스가 채집한 샘플은 향후 화성 임무를 통해 지구로 반환될 것이다.

Mars Rock Rochette

Explanation: Taken on mission sol 180 (August 22) this sharp image from a Hazard Camera on the Perseverance rover looks out across a rock strewn floor of Jezero crater on Mars. At 52.5 centimeters (21inches) in diameter, one of the rover's steerable front wheels is at lower left in the frame. Near center is a large rock nicknamed Rochette. Mission planners don't want to avoid Rochette though. Instead Perseverance will be instructed to reach out with its 2 meter long robotic arm and abrade the rock's surface, to determine whether it has a consistency suitable for obtaining a sample, slightly thicker than a pencil, using the rover's coring bit. Samples collected by Perseverance would be returned to Earth by a future Mars mission.
